Gearóid Ó hAllmhuráin, a professor of Irish Studies at Concordia University in Montréal, is also a master of the “Anglo” concertina, a little squeezebox with hexagonal ends that musicians in his native Clare embraced like those of no other county. The push and pull of the concertina’s bellows provided the rhythmic pulse for set dancers in the kitchens of County Clare, a sound that Professor Ó hAllmhuráin will reproduce in the cosy confines of Glucksman Ireland House. He will be joined for this concert by New Jersey fiddler Willie Kelly, a respected exponent of the old-time style of east Clare and east Galway who has recorded with the late, great flute player Mike Rafferty and with Waterford piper David Power.
